General Abd al-Razigh Nadhouri, the Chief of Staff, of eastern Libya’s self-styled Libyan National Army (LNA) today escaped an assassination attempt “by terrorist sleeper cells” in Benghazi’s eastern suburb of Sidi Khalifa, according to statement by LNA’s Media Office.
It was understood that his motorcade was hit by a blast after a truck laden with explosives was detonated remotely around midday local time.
A passer-by said to be a Syrian national was killed by the explosion and three Libyans were slightly wounded.
General Nadhouri has returned safely to his hometown of al-Marj (60 km east of Benghazi), according to sources who spoke to our website.
UPDATE: General Abd al-Razigh Nadhouri released a video statement (below) in which he affirmed the unity among LNA ranks and leadership, and said the attack was aimed at undermining LNA campaign against the Mujahedeen Shura Council of Darnah.
